Handler Certification

There are many sources available for testing a canine detection team’s performance. These tests are based on hiding a few target odors and handlers then taking their dogs and showing that they can find those odors. The same test is given to brand new handlers that is given to someone with ten years of experience. It is important for handlers to demonstrate their ability to use a dog to locate a specific odor.

There are handlers who’ve spent years in the field and who’ve built a knowledge base about the materials and items that generate the odor they search for and an experience base in using dogs to find the odors generated by those things. That knowledge and experience sets these handlers apart from some members of the detector dog profession who just show and do what they must to get by. Wouldn’t you like to have a certificate that documents the dedication to using detection dogs to find odor.
