Scent Detection Dogs
The Latimer School trains scent detection dogs and handlers for operational deployment. Dogs may be available as green, imprinted, or operational-ready depending on training stage and placement fit.
FAQs
What types of scent detection dogs do you train? We train scent detection dogs for operational environments. Training focus varies by odor, environment, and deployment needs.
Do you sell fully trained dogs or green dogs? Dogs may be available at different training stages, including green, imprinted, or operational-ready, depending on program timing and placement fit.
How are dogs matched to handlers or organizations?Placement is based on operational needs, environment, handler experience, and overall suitability—not first-come, first-served availability. Handlers and dogs have unique personalities that must be considered in the placement process. We have decades of experience matching dogs and handlers. We use interviews and peer assessments, along with that experience to help ensure a good fit.
Are dogs certified before placement? Certification depends on the training stage and intended deployment. Certification options may be available through The K9 Alliance. Dogs and handlers are not certified individually. Certification is for the team, which includes the dog and the handler tested together as a unit.
What if no dogs are currently available? If no dogs are listed, training is ongoing. You may join the placement interest list to be notified when dogs become available. Please complete the contact form and we will contact you to discuss your needs and timeline for obtaining a detector dog.
